Gypsy-Lea Douglas

Gypsy-Lea Douglas is an Australian artist, currently residing in Melbourne.

She discovered her interest in art as a pre-teen and began with pencil drawings, paintings and armature photography. Whilst studying art in high school she dabbled in sculpture and other mediums.

Her most recent works include portraits of actors, musicians and radio presenters. Each piece being created using old audio cassette tapes, VHS tapes, vintage radio reels and the like. The ribbon is pulled from inside the tape and used as a medium to "draw" the subject.

Gypsy has been using this medium since approximately 2010, and was featured on Light FM radio in 2015 when she used vintage radio reels to create portraits of morning-show hosts, Lucy Holmes Bailey and Kel McWilliam.

These pieces were donated to the station and hung on the walls of their Mitcham office.
